This May, the Chemainus Art Group is proudly celebrating 50 years creating art within their community. The “Big Five Oh” art show is a showcase of the people and communities that have helped the Chemainus Art Group flourish from 1969 to 2019.
The group began with 12 artists who started the Chemainus Sketch Group and met at the home of founding member, Edith Harris. Now with 65 members, the group has updated their name to the Chemainus Art Group. True to their original vision, participating artists still meet monthly, hold art demonstrations and workshops and enjoy the company of fellow artists in their permanent home at Studio 16 located at the Saltair Community Centre.
Local residents are encouraged to attend the Celebrating 50 years of Art event at the Chemainus Art Group’s opening on Friday, May 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. During the weekend, show hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 4 and 5.
