Economic Development Cowichan is proud to support the Shawnigan Village community to envision its future.

EDC is working in partnership with Sierra Acton, Director Electoral Area B, community champions, stakeholders, and design consultants on Think Shawnigan, an intense design and planning process generating creative ideas for the future look and feel of Shawnigan Village.

There are many opportunities for community input and participation in the process.  The outcome will be a highly visual, long-term vision for the heart of Shawnigan Village, based on the community’s ideas.

Join us on Saturday, September 21 at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre for the Think Shawnigan Gathering, a celebration of all things Shawnigan. From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. the community will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre with lots of community activities, which will include the launch of this exciting visioning process for the future of Shawnigan Village.  This is your time to meet the designers and share your ideas!

We are excited to have Vancouver Island University artists on hand ready to sketch your ideas as well as interactive maps and volunteers available for you to share your ideas on the Shawnigan Village study area.  Also, there will be three 10 minute presentations at 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. by award winning consultant Michael von Hausen giving insights into the intensive design process set for October 17, 18, and 19. This really is an opportunity not to be missed!

All residents, business owners, students, visitors, are welcome and encouraged to attend the September 21 event, as well as the events in October.  If you can’t make it, we encourage you to have your say and participate in the online survey.

This is your invitation to participate in Development Designed by Community!
